3 held for alleged drug racket in central Delhi

New Delhi: Three foreign nationals— including one who was staying on an expired medical visa and one staying on an expired student visa— have been arrested for allegedly running an amphetamine racket in Patel Nagar area of central Delhi.According to the police, a tip-off was received about the supply of narcotic substances in the area. A raiding team was formed, and a trap was laid near Shadipur Flyover, where one Prince, a 22-year-old resident of Nihal Vihar, was found with 54 gm of amphetamine. Police found that he is originally from Cape Town and had come to India in 2023 on a medical visa. His visa had reportedly expired in March this year, after which he was allegedly staying illegally.“Raids were conducted in Nihal Vihar and Nilothi. Two more associates— Efosa Mikel Atohan, a 24-year-old resident of Uttam Nagar and Justin Chukuwa, a 36-year-old resident of Nilothi— were nabbed,” said DCP (central) Rohit Rajbir Singh.Police found that Atohan had come from Nigeria in 2019 on a student visa, which had expired in 2023, after which he was allegedly staying illegally. Chukuwa, police said, has been staying in India since birth, and his father is a Nigerian national while his mother is an Indian citizen.A total of 8 gms were seized from Atohan, while 9 gms were seized from Chukuwa. The accused told cops that they are of Nigerian origin and were said to be engaged in the import-export of fabrics between India and Nigeria as their ostensible business. Police said that they were also involved in the procurement and supply of amphetamine to consumers.
