Mohali: In the second such incident in a week, a police team came under attack in Kharar on Tuesday after assailants allegedly attempted to run over personnel while trying to flee.Kharar police arrested four persons for allegedly attacking a police party during a raid in Sector 115 and attempting to mow down policemen with their vehicle. Police recovered 83 grams of heroin, Rs 15,000 in suspected drug money and seized two vehicles from the accused.According to police, a team had been deployed to trace individuals involved in drug peddling and robbery. During the operation, the police noticed a group of youths behaving suspiciously. On being questioned, the suspects reportedly appeared to be under the influence of drugs.When the police attempted to apprehend them, the accused allegedly tried to escape in their vehicle, attacked the police party and attempted to run over personnel. The team, however, managed to overpower and arrest all four suspects on the spot.The accused were identified as Amanpreet Singh, Amandeep Singh, Harvinder Singh and Mandeep Singh, all residents of Kharar. A case was registered against them under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the NDPS Act at Sadar Kharar police station.They were produced before a court, which remanded them to three days’ police custody. Following their medical examination and dope tests, Section 27 of the NDPS Act was also added to the case.Earlier, on April 15, two police teams deployed to trace anti-social elements involved in drug peddling and robbery were attacked in Kharar. A separate case was registered at Sadar Kharar police station, and six accused were later arrested.
