Shimla: Himachal Pradesh deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri said on Friday that around two lakh saplings would be planted across Una district during 2026-27 to strengthen environmental conservation and increase green cover.Speaking at the inauguration of the 77th District-Level Van Mahotsav at Kuthar Beed in Haroli, Agnihotri urged people to ensure proper care of plants until they mature into trees. He also planted a Rudraksha sapling.The forest department has targeted plantation on 103 hectares under various schemes, including the Rajiv Gandhi Forest Promotion Scheme, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, and compensatory afforestation for the Bulk Drug Park.The state govt has allocated Rs 10 crore to increase green cover and undertake forest conservation activities in Kuthar Beed, said Agnihotri, adding that a local pond would also be renovated, with a park and walking trails planned around it.He urged citizens to plant at least one sapling every year and pledged continued strict action against forest offences.
