GURGAON: A night out at a club, a confrontation on Golf Course Road and a chase that stretched for nearly 2km preceded what police have described as a “murder bid” involving a woman biker on Sunday.Kalyan Singh Bainsla, the main accused, had allegedly been returning from The Empire club at MGF Metropolitan mall on MG Road with his cousin and friends when the incident took place on Sunday. Bainsla had borrowed the Ciaz from a friend for the outing. Police are yet to establish whether Bainsla or anyone else in the car had consumed alcohol.According to investigators, the confrontation began after Bainsla and the others spotted Shivani Chauhan riding her Aprilia RS 457. The car allegedly followed her for around 2km. The occupants asked Chauhan to stop, but she did not. Instead, she allegedly signalled the driver to move away.The car then allegedly continued following her before ramming the motorcycle.Chauhan told police that the driver made indecent gestures at her, chased her and deliberately hit her motorcycle with the intention of killing her. She also told investigators that there were four people inside the car.Footage from the camera mounted on Chauhan’s motorcycle shows the Ciaz repeatedly trying to get alongside her bike before hitting it. The Aprilia was knocked down and slid across the road while other vehicles continued to pass through the stretch.Police are also examining the alleged role of Lavnish, who was travelling with Bainsla. Sources said Lavnish allegedly instigated Bainsla to chase Chauhan and also allegedly abused her during the incident. Shrikant, another associate of Bainsla, was also reportedly in the car.The accused were later taken to the spot by police on Thursday for a reconstruction of the incident. Bainsla and Lavnish were sent to police custody till Friday after investigators sought two days’ custody.A five-member special investigation team headed by the ACP (crime and women) is probing the case. The team includes the SHO of Sector 56 police station, the Sohna crime branch in-charge and two other police officers.Police initially registered a case under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against an unidentified driver. After Chauhan’s statement and the CCTV footage were examined, Sections 78, 79 and 109(1) were added, including the attempt-to-murder provision.Police took suo motu cognisance of the incident after a video showing the Ciaz and Chauhan’s motorcycle was posted on Instagram by the account ‘Rebelwheels_Sia’ and went viral on September 14.Chauhan subsequently handed over a pen drive containing CCTV footage to police. Investigators also collected footage from GMDA and DLF cameras covering Golf Course Road and the Metro station area between 6am and 8am on September 13.Police are now analysing the different video recordings, statements and other evidence to establish the exact sequence of events, determine who was present in the car and ascertain the role played by each accused.
