All victims were stabbed or bludgeoned to death in parks, a hotel, a house, and on roads. Police arrested the accused after the murders and claimed to have solved all the cases.The 7 murder cases were reported from Sector 38, 2 from village Daria, Sector 36, Sector 40, Hallomajra, and Maloya. 6 victims were stabbed to death, while 1 was bludgeoned to death in the park of Sector 40.In broad daylight, 2 people stabbed to death a 21-year-old man in Sector 38 on January 17, 2026. The victim was returning after hearing of a case from the district court in Sector 43. The next day, the Sector 39 police station arrested both accused persons, Krish alias Kasu, 19, and Aryan alias Honey, 18. Both accused were residents of Dadu Majra Colony, Sector 38, Chandigarh. Investigation revealed a long-standing feud between both parties. Earlier, there were several fights between them at Bapudham, Sector 17, and Sector 25.A 32-year-old, Vivek alias Shanky, a resident of Sector 40, was found murdered in the park in Sector 40 on January 22, and later, the Sector 39 police arrested his friend in the murder case. Vivek was killed by being hit on the head with a heavy stone.The Maloya police arrested 2 minors for allegedly stabbing to death an 18-year-old teenager near his residence in Maloya on January 20.On January 29, a 35-year-old auto driver, Arun Kumar Tiwari, was stabbed to death by another auto driver on the rooftop of a hotel in village Daria. After 15 days of the incident, the Industrial Area Phase-1 police arrested the accused, Vishal Mishra, in the case.On February 5, a cab driver, Sushil, of Sector 20 was allegedly abducted from Deep Complex, Hallomajra, and the next day he was found murdered in Dera Bassi. The Sector 31 police registered a case of murder and abduction and arrested 5 people in the case.On February 21, a 35-year-old Seema was stabbed to death by her neighbour in her rented house in village Daria. The accused was also living on rent in the same house, forcibly entered the victim’s house, and tried to rape her. When she resisted, he allegedly stabbed and bludgeoned Seema. The accused was arrested by the police as he did not try to escape the spot after murdering the woman.Another 23-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her spurned lover in the park at Sector 36 on the night of February 22, 2026. When the victim turned down the accused’s marriage proposal, the accused allegedly assaulted her with a knife to the neck, killing her.A couple of incidents of gunshots fired at a pharmacy and a builder’s house in Sector 32 and Sector 21 were also reported on the night of January 15. Later, the crime branch police arrested a total of 4 people, including 2 shooters, in connection with the Sector 32 firing. 2 shooters and their associate were arrested after an encounter in Sector 39. Both shooters received bullet injuries in the encounter and were admitted to GMSH-16 for treatment. However, no arrest was made in the firing on the house of the builder so far.In 2025, the city also recorded a surge in the murder cases and reported a total of 26 murder cases as compared to 22 in 2024.
