NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old dancer was allegedly assaulted by a group of his friends and thrown onto railway tracks in Delhi’s Bhalswa Dairy area, leaving him critically injured and at risk of losing both his legs, according to his family.CCTV visuals of the incident have surfaced, purportedly showing the victim, identified as Mohit, being attacked before he was found near the railway tracks in the Pratap Nagar area.Mohit’s mother, Sangita Devi, said the family learned about the incident while travelling on April 25. Initially believing it to be a minor road accident, they were shocked by the severity of his condition after reaching the hospital.“This incident happened on April 25. We were not at home at that time. While we were on the train, we got the news in the morning that my son had met with an accident. I first thought he might have fallen from a bike and suffered minor injuries,” she said.“But when we reached the hospital, my son was in severe pain and crying. Doctors told us both his legs might have to be amputated. His condition had become very serious,” she added.Mohit is currently undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.According to his mother, Mohit was passionate about dancing and frequently participated in dance battles and events with his friends.“My son loved dancing. He would go out with his friends for dance battles and events,” she said, alleging that four boys may have attacked him after taking him somewhere. The family has also accused the police of failing to take proper action and claimed they were initially misled during the investigation.“They showed us footage in a confusing way. But when we carefully watched it, it looked like my son was being beaten and then running away. They claimed he was drunk, but if he had been intoxicated, how could he have crossed such a busy highway?” Sangita Devi said. She added that the family does not yet know the identities of all the accused and has demanded strict action against those responsible.“Our demand is simple, we want justice and strict punishment for those responsible,” she said.
