20% job reservation for ex-Agniveers in Delhi govt depts

New Delhi: Delhi govt will provide 20% reservation to former Agniveers through direct recruitment to Group C posts across a few key departments. The reservation will cover police constables in Delhi Police, firemen in Delhi Fire Service, jail warders in the prisons department, and forest and wildlife guards in the environment, forest & wildlife department.Lieutenant governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu Thursday directed all departments to finalise procedures and amend recruitment rules by June 30. The directions were issued after Sandhu chaired a high-level meeting attended by the chief secretary, the commissioner of Delhi Police and senior officials to assess the roadmap for the rollout of the proposal.The move is in line with central govt’s policy of facilitating post-service employment opportunities for Agniveers and aims to integrate trained and disciplined personnel into key public service roles in the city.Agniveers serve in the armed forces for four years under the Agnipath scheme. Govt wants to leverage their military training, physical fitness, discipline and operational experience.LG said former Agniveers possessed skills and experience that could strengthen frontline public institutions and improve operational efficiency in departments responsible for public safety, emergency response and environmental protection. He noted that their induction would help enhance the capability and resilience of these services.The move follows last month’s discussions regarding their induction into Delhi Fire Service. The reservation policy is expected to benefit a growing pool of former Agniveers in seeking employment opportunities in civilian govt services, said an official.
