Gurgaon: A high-tension electricity pole standing in the middle of the road dividing sectors 102 and 102A has become a safety hazard for motorists and narrowed the three-lane carriageway to two lanes at the spot.Residents said the pole has remained on the carriageway for over two years despite repeated complaints to GMDA, DHBVN and HVPNL. They alleged that accidents have occurred at the location and motorists often have to swerve or change lanes abruptly to avoid the obstruction.The problem becomes more hazardous during winter, when fog and poor visibility make the pole difficult to spot, residents added. With the foggy season approaching, residents have urged the authorities to complete the shifting work before visibility deteriorates.“The pole poses a serious safety hazard and puts commuters at risk of accidents. Despite repeated requests, no action has been taken so far. With winter approaching, the authorities should remove it without any further delay in the interest of public safety,” said Alka Malhotra, a resident of Adani Oyster, Sector 102A.Residents said motorists unfamiliar with the stretch could be particularly vulnerable, as the pole is located within the carriageway and may be difficult to spot in low-visibility conditions. They said its presence also creates a bottleneck for traffic heading towards Dwarka Expressway.“Despite several road accidents reported at this location in the last two years, the pole has not yet been shifted. It seems like road safety is not the priority of authorities,” said Parag Anand, a resident of Joyville, Sector 102.Meanwhile, an HVPNL official said the process of shifting the pole has been initiated. “The shifting of the high-tension pole is in the tendering process. The work is likely to be completed before the onset of winter,” the official said.
