Chennai: Two 25-year-old women were arrested for attempting to hand over a packet of ganja to a Goondas Act detainee on the Chennai Collectorate premises on Rajaji Road. Police said the women tried to smuggle ganja to a prisoner, Manikandan, 35, who has been lodged in Puzhal Central Prison under the Goondas Act. According to the police, on Monday afternoon, Manikandan was escorted to a court on the Chennai Collectorate campus in Parrys for proceedings. Later, his wife, Valli, secretly passed him a packet of ganja. Police personnel on escort duty intercepted the exchange and detained Valli. Officers said Valli’s friend, Ammu, brought the ganja to the court premises. The North Beach police seized 20g of ganja, registered a case against the duo and arrested them.
