2 SBI staffers killed in Dhemaji accident

Dibrugarh: Two employees of the State Bank of India’s (SBI) Dhemaji branch died late Sunday night after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a waterlogged roadside ditch at Hahchora in Dhemaji district.The deceased have been identified as Hirakjyoti Mili, cashier at the SBI Dhemaji branch and Ratul Konwar, accountant at the same branch. The duo was on their way to Dhemaji when the accident occurred.According to preliminary reports, heavy rain was lashing the area at the time, and the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a bend on the road. The car fell into a deep, water-filled ditch alongside the road. Due to the depth of the water and the impact of the crash, the occupants got trapped inside the submerged vehicle and drowned before rescue operations could be initiated.Locals discovered the vehicle and alerted the police. Emergency responders and local authorities rushed to the spot and extricated the bodies from the ditch. The accident occurred amid the ongoing flood crisis in Dhemaji district, where continuous rainfall has damaged roads and compromised visibility across the region.
