Noida: Eight members of a gang of thieves, including two minors, that allegedly targeted parked two-wheelers, paying guest (PG) accommodations and locked houses were arrested on Tuesday. The alleged kingpin, Sagar alias Punjabi, is on the run and teams have been formed to trace him.According to additional DCP Manisha Singh, the gang would first conduct surveillance of isolated locations, residential sectors and housing societies to identify unattended motorcycles. They also targeted PGs that left their gates open at night and houses that appeared locked during the day.“If confronted during the thefts, the accused allegedly intimidated victims with knives before fleeing through different routes to avoid detection,” Singh said.Cops seized three stolen motorcycles, three stolen mobile phones, three knives and a .315-bore country-made pistol. The accused have been identified as Danish, Appu alias Sandeep, Vikas, Sahil alias Shubham, Sharad Singh Dev and Suraj Kumar Gupta. The identities of the two minors in custody have been withheld in accordance with legal provisions.Police said the gang is named after its alleged leader. Vikas allegedly played a key role in planning the crimes and coordinating the gang’s activities. Investigation is underway to ascertain the gang’s involvement in other theft cases reported across the city.
