2 Kuki-Zomi soldiers honoured with Shaurya Charkra

Churachandpur: Two Kuki-Zomi soldiers from Manipur’s Churachandpur district have been awarded the Shaurya Chakra, India’s third-highest peacetime gallantry honour, for acts of bravery and devotion to duty.Subedar PH Moses of 1 Assam Rifles, a native of Lamka in Churachandpur, was recognised for bravery and leadership during a high-risk security operation in Manipur. On May 14, 2025, he confronted armed miscreants occupying elevated terrain and advanced under heavy fire, leading his troops to neutralise multiple hostile cadres. “His command pinned down remaining threats and ensured mission success”.In a related recognition, the Indian Coast Guard dedicated the Subedar PH Moses, Shaurya Chakra Shoorvir Auditorium at Daman on 5 May 2026.Moses, a Paite, is the third of five siblings of (Late) Hangshing Pauzanang Paite, who worked as a surveillance inspector in the Malaria department.Rifleman Manglem Sang Vaiphei of 3 Assam Rifles, also from Churachandpur, received the Shaurya Chakra from President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He was honoured for bravery and tactical skill as lead scout during an anti-infiltration operation along the India-Myanmar border, where his alertness and professionalism were described as crucial to the operation’s success.The awards have been welcomed across the Kuki-Zomi community, which has described the recognition as a source of pride and inspiration.
