Rajkot: Two people were killed and another sustained serious injuries after an SUV allegedly driven at high speed by a police inspector rammed into a group loading an injured bull onto a tractor near the Gandheshwar railway crossing in Jamjodhpur town of Jamnagar district on Thursday night.The SUV was allegedly being driven by inspector Nilesh Chauhan, posted at Jamjodhpur police station. Based on an FIR lodged by Mahesh Bhojani, son of one of the deceased, Chauhan has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing death by negligence, rash and negligent driving, and endangering human life, besides provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act for dangerous driving.According to the FIR, farmer Nuggha Bhojani, along with Ronak Khant and Sadhu Ramdas alias Ramesh Desani, was helping load an injured bull onto a tractor when the black SUV, allegedly being driven at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner from the Jamjodhpur side, ploughed into them.Bhojani and Khant were rushed to Jamjodhpur govt hospital by Mahesh Bhojani and the accused inspector, where doctors declared both dead. Desani suffered serious injuries and was later referred to G.G. Hospital for further treatment.The FIR states that Bhojani, a farmer and father of three, was travelling with his son in a van when they stopped after people at the spot requested their help in loading the injured bull onto the tractor. Moments later, the SUV struck the group.Given that the accused is a serving police inspector, the investigation has been entrusted to police inspector KL Galchar. Investigators will examine the circumstances leading to the crash, including the vehicle’s speed, the driver’s conduct and other evidence, before deciding on further legal action.
