Chandigarh: The Operation Cell of Chandigarh Police arrested two alleged members of a drug and arms supply network operating in Chandigarh and Mohali and recovered 517 grams of heroin, two country-made pistols, four live cartridges, a magazine and Rs 20,000 in suspected drug money.SSP (Operations) Rajesh Sharma said the accused were Monu, 23, of EWS Colony, Maloya, and Sachin Shukla, 21, of Small Flats, Dhanas. Police also recovered an electronic weighing scale, plastic pouches and a backpack.According to the police, the Operation Cell arrested Monu on Sept 3 following a tip-off. During his search, the heroin, a country-made pistol, magazine, four live cartridges, cash and other items used for weighing and packaging drugs were recovered.A case was registered at Sector 39 police station under Section 21 of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act. Police said Monu has previously been booked in four cases, including under the NDPS and Arms Acts, besides rioting and other offences.He was produced before a court on Sept 4 and remanded in police custody for seven days. During questioning, he allegedly disclosed the involvement of Shukla and told investigators that they supplied drugs and weapons in Chandigarh and Mohali.Acting on the information, the Operation Cell arrested Shukla on Sept 9 and recovered a country-made pistol from him. Police said Shukla had been booked under the NDPS Act at Sector 39 police station in April this year.Police are questioning the accused to ascertain the source of the heroin and weapons and identify other members of the alleged network.
