Jaipur: Sixteen years after a cheating case was registered against them, two men accused of defrauding people through a chain-based investment scheme were arrested by the city police Thursday.DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said that the accused, Sunil Bhaskar and Nasir Ali Khan, allegedly lured people into the scheme with promises of attractive returns. Police said multiple cases linked to the alleged fraud were registered across Rajasthan, with hundreds of people suspected to have been cheated. The case dates to April 1, 2010, when Rama Shankar approached Mansarovar police station, alleging that he had lost Rs 4,66,500 in the scheme. Police registered a case of cheating, criminal breach of trust and conspiracy, and arrested one accused, Imran Khan.Bhaskar, Khan and another accused, Vijay Singh, subsequently went missing from their residences, prompting police to obtain permanent arrest warrants against them. The warrants allowed proceedings to continue despite their absence. With police stepping up efforts to trace wanted criminals and people facing permanent warrants ahead of Diwali, investigators revisited the case. They learnt that Bhaskar had moved to Hyderabad and obtained an Aadhaar card bearing an address there.Technical surveillance later indicated that he had returned to Jaipur’s Jhotwara area. Police tracked him down and, based on information obtained from him, located Nasir Ali Khan in Jaipur. Both men were arrested in compliance with the warrants and taken into custody for questioning. Police are investigating their roles in the alleged fraud and are examining the wider network behind the scheme.
