Guwahati: Assam Police on Saturday arrested two persons in Kokrajhar district for allegedly storing country-made weapons.Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the concealment of the illegal firearms, a joint team of Assam Police and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) launched a search operation in the suspected location, leading to the seizure of the weapons.The police have not divulged any information about the specificities of weapons. However, it was found in a banana farm at Chaudhury Ghat in the Gossaigaon area.Police said the farm was owned by Raja Narzary.The two arrested persons were identified as Nipun Narzary and Brinda Narzary.“We were informed about the concealment of the firearms within farm premises. Acting upon that, we found the weapons and have arrested two persons who were working as security guards, and they received Rs 300 per night for their work,” said Gossaigaon Police Station’s officer-in-charge Kaikhoseh Simte.Simte said during an interrogation, both Nipun and Brinda denied that the weapons belonged to them, claiming instead that they had been placed there by someone else. The officer further said that the investigation is on to verify their statements and identify the actual owner.Meanwhile, police teams are also trying to locate Raja, who may have crucial information related to the case.
