Jaipur: Two men from Tamil Nadu were rescued from alleged captivity in Jaipur and eight people, including two women, were arrested for their alleged involvement in a multi-state cyber fraud gang operating out of the city, police said.DCP (North) Karan Sharma said that police received information that a gang allegedly run by two men from Mewat region had held the two Tamil Nadu residents captive in Nai Ki Thadi area under Jaisinghpura Khor police station of the city. “Based on the information, we raided the location and rescued the two men. We also arrested eight people from the spot,” Sharma said.Police found the two men, with their hands tied, inside a Scorpio. The accused had allegedly demanded money from their relatives, police said.Sharma said preliminary information suggested that gang members had been recruited by Zafaruddin alias Zafru (30) of Thauns under Jerouli police station in Khairthal-Tijara. According to Sharma, Zafaruddin had allegedly hired people on salaries ranging from Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000 a month. He said Zafaruddin had been associated with cybercrime activities in Mewat and allegedly shifted his base first to Sikar and later to Jaipur to avoid detection.The other accused were identified as Sivarman G (48) of Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu; Srinath (49) of Mundanur in Kannur; Mohammad Mishal (21) of Melvisharam in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu; Jayalakshmi (45) of Thondaiman Durai in Veppathatai, Perambalur, Tamil Nadu; Fahmida Bano (30) of Melvisharam in Ranipet, Mubarik (38) of Jangal Ka Vas in Thauns in Khairthal and Sajid Khan (30) of Lapala under Tijara police station in Khairthal.The gang allegedly targeted people with large stocks of old Rs 1, Rs 2 and Rs 5 notes, promising to buy their collections for large sums. The accused allegedly contacted victims through Facebook and Instagram and demanded money in instalments on the pretext of GST, registration and other charges.Sharma said the two Tamil Nadu men had been brought to Jaipur on the pretext of jobs. When they realised that they had been drawn into a fraud, they refused to cooperate, following which the gang allegedly held them captive.Police are now investigating the gang’s other victims and its links with cybercrime networks in other states.
