2 from Navi Mumbai killed in separate road accidents

Navi Mumbai: A Karjat taluka youth, Jitesh Ruthe, 24, was killed in a fatal accident reported on the Panvel-Karjat road on Friday morning. The biker was hit by a dumper, leading to the accident. Meanwhile, a Panvel youth, Chumankumar Mahato, 29, died, while pillion rider Bikeshkumar Sharma, 29, sustained grievous injuries when a dumper hit their bike in Taloja. Ruthe was riding a bike towards Panvel while the dumper was moving towards Karjat. The accident was reported at Bhilvale village. The victim’s body was taken to the govt rural hospital, Chowk, where a post-mortem was conducted. A fatal accident case has been registered with Khalapur police station, but the Chowk outpost is further investigating the same.Earlier, two youths were killed in an accident when their bikes collided with others at nearby Borgaon village on Sunday. The two bikes struck each other in the mishap. They were riding in opposite directions. Reckless driving on the stretch, with a number of road curves, has become a major safety concern among many.The villagers on the Chowk to Karjat stretch have demanded the erection of a road median wherever left out. Pointing to the accidents and mishaps on this stretch, the locals claim that heavy and other vehicles speeding on this road stretch often violate the road safety rules by driving wrong.The Taloja police have booked the dumper driver under relevant sections of BNS and the Motor Vehicle Act and are further investigating the case.
