2 families lose over Rs 40L to immigration fraud

Panchkula: Two families from Kalka have allegedly been duped of over Rs 42 lakh by an immigration firm that promised to send their children to Canada. Panchkula police have registered two separate FIRs in connection with the alleged fraud.The cases were registered at Pinjore police station following inquiries by the Anti-Immigration Fraud Unit (AIFU), Panchkula. The accused include employees associated with RG Immigration Services/Real Gateway of Migration, which operated from Phase I, Mohali.In the first case, Gurbant Singh, a resident of Sukhomajri, Kalka, alleged that he paid Rs 20.1 lakh to the firm for sending his son, Sahil Chaudhary, to Canada. He claimed that company representatives assured him that the process would be completed within three months. Payments were made through RTGS on different dates and an agreement was signed on Sept 11, 2024.However, after more than two years, his son was not sent abroad. Gurbant alleged that the firm continued to offer assurances before its office was eventually found locked.In the other case, Jarnail Singh of Manakpur Devi Lal, Kalka, alleged that he paid Rs 22.3 lakh to the same firm to send his daughter to Canada. An agreement was executed on Sept 19, 2024, and payments were made through RTGS, Google Pay and other online modes.He too alleged that the firm failed to fulfil its promise and later shut its office. The two cases involve an alleged fraud of Rs 42.4 lakh. Police have registered separate cases and initiated an investigation.
