HYDERABAD: Two Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLCs were arrested by police for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.On Monday, Pollepalli Venkatesham, OSD to the Telangana Assembly Speaker, lodged a complaint with Saifabad police alleging that BRS MLCs Tata Madhusudhan alias Madhu and N Naveen Kumar had used derogatory language against the Speaker, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste community.The incident took place in front of the Assembly when BRS legislators tried to enter the Assembly premises wearing black shirts in protest against the alleged failure of the state government to fulfil its promises.When police stopped the two MLCs along with other leaders, they allegedly made offensive remarks. The complainant alleged, “T Madhusudhan and N Naveen Kumar Reddy launched a malicious verbal tirade targeting the Speaker, having knowledge that the Speaker hails from a Scheduled Caste community. They used derogatory language against the Speaker on account of his social background and constitutional role in place of public view. They acted with malice to demean the Speaker, incite hatred and cause public disorder.”Based on the complaint, a case was registered against the two MLCs under Section 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace), read with Section 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS and the SC/ST (POA) Act on Monday night.Both MLCs were arrested from their houses in Hyderabad on Tuesday. They will be produced before the court for remand.
