Surat: A 19-year-old woman allegedly abducted from Rajasthan died at SMIMER Hospital in Surat on Monday, with the man accused of abducting her fleeing the hospital after allegedly sending pictures of her body to her family.The deceased, Kumkum Rao, was allegedly taken away by 45-year-old Dilip, who worked with her father in the vegetable trade in Gudamalani town of Balotra district, Rajasthan. Gudamalani police reached Surat on Wednesday and took custody of the body for further investigation.According to police, Dilip took Kumkum with him on August 22, telling her father, Shivlal, that they were going to celebrate her Dashama Vrat. When the two did not return, Shivlal realised that Kumkum had left home carrying her school documents and Rs 8,000.Police suspect Dilip took her to Ahmedabad initially and later travelled to Surat, apparently to avoid being traced. Her health reportedly deteriorated after reaching Surat, following which Dilip admitted her to SMIMER Hospital on Aug 23.Kumkum died at the hospital on Aug 25. Police said Dilip allegedly took photographs of her after her death and sent them to her family before leaving the hospital. He subsequently switched off his mobile phone and went missing.The family alerted relatives in Surat, who reached the hospital and found Kumkum dead.Gudamalani police have taken the body to Rajasthan for further investigation. Police are probing the circumstances surrounding the woman’s alleged abduction, her movements from Rajasthan to Gujarat and the cause of her death.
