Jaipur: A 17-year-old Class 12 student died after falling ill at a private city school Wednesday, prompting parents to protest and file a police complaint alleging negligence.The parents said the school called them in afternoon, saying the student, identified as Prince Soni, felt unwell after lunch, but did not disclose that he had fallen unconscious. They alleged the school kept him in a room instead of taking him to a nearby hospital. The protest was held at the school on Thursday.Student’s father Amit Soni said, “I got a call from the school Wednesday stating that my son was feeling unwell and that we should take him. I asked my friend to pick him up from school. After 15-20 minutes, the school called again saying we must bring a four-wheeler to pick him up. They did not inform us that he was unconscious or the situation was serious.”Family members said that the boy started feeling unwell after having patties from the school canteen.Ravi Soni, the boy’s uncle, said, “My nephew and his friends were eating school canteen patties after which he started feeling unwell. We are not sure whether it got stuck in his throat or the food item was stale, but he immediately fell ill after eating it. Two of his friends also ate and were feeling uncomfortable afterwards. When he fell unconscious, the school administration took him to a room and were rubbing his hands and feet. They should have taken him to a hospital.”The uncle added that when the family rushed the boy to the hospital, he was declared dead. He said that the family is yet to receive post-mortem report.Speaking to TOI, DCP (west) Prashant Kiran said police, acting on a complaint by the parents, registered an FIR against the school administration for alleged negligence.ACP Jhotwara Shiv Kumar Bhardwaj said two persons from the school administration including the school director were brought to the station for questioning.
