Rajkot: A surveillance and enforcement drive conducted by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) across food establishments led to 154kg of stale and inedible food being seized and destroyed.The drive focused on checking the quality of raw materials and the use of approved starch in farali items, including farali pattice, which are in high demand during Shravan. Officials also checked food establishments for adulteration and unhygienic conditions.The RMC inspected 45 food establishments across various zones. Besides the stale food, officials also seized and destroyed waste newspapers being used to pack food. Notices were issued to nine establishments for hygiene violations, licence-related irregularities and improper storage, with Rs 17,500 collected in administrative charges.Five food samples were also collected for detailed testing under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
