Silchar: A suspected child marriage case has surfaced in Sribhumi district after a 14-year-old pregnant girl was taken to a hospital for delivery, leading to the arrest of her 21-year-old husband under the Pocso Act, police said on Monday.The matter came to light when her husband brought the girl to a civil hospital in Hailakandi for childbirth. During the admission process, hospital authorities verified her documents and found she was 14.As per mandatory reporting provisions, the hospital informed the police. Since the alleged offence falls under another police station, Hailakandi police alerted their counterparts. A police team reached the hospital, took the man into custody and later arrested him after questioning.He was produced before a local court.Police registered a case against the husband under Section 65(1) of the BNS and relevant provisions of the Pocso Act, including Sections 6, 9, 10 and 17. The investigation is ongoing.
