Pune: State data said close to 12.98 lakh students have already confirmed admissions to first year junior college (FYJC, Class XI) across Maharashtra, so far, even as the last admission round opened on Tuesday to accommodate children who are yet to secure a seat.School education department data said 12,98,462 out of the 15,31,964 candidates registered for the centralised online FYJC admission process that began in May have confirmed their admissions. Last academic year, the overall final admission numbers stood at 13.24 lakh.Till now, the admission process has included a zero round, three regular rounds and three special rounds. The latest special round, which commenced on Tuesday, offers another opportunity to students who either missed earlier chances or are still awaiting admission.Under the schedule, students can complete fresh registrations, make corrections to their application forms and fill in their college preferences from Tuesday to Thursday. Applications will be scrutinised and seats allotted on Friday. The allotment list, cut offs and quota admission lists will be released at 10am on Saturday. Students allotted seats must complete document verification and pay the admission fee between Aug 8 and Aug 10 to confirm their admission. The list of remaining vacant seats will be published on the admission portal on Aug 11.Education department officials said students participating in the special round must fill preferences for 10 junior colleges and lock their application, otherwise it will not be considered for seat allotment.“I couldn’t get my preferred college in the earlier rounds because of the cut-off. This special round gives me another chance to revise my preferences and secure admission closer to home hopefully,” said Ashwini Barshe, a Pune student awaiting admission.An applicant from Nashik, Anuj Khot, said, “Many students were waiting for vacancies after earlier rounds. The additional special round has reduced anxiety and given us hope of getting a suitable college.”Education department officials advised students to carefully check the admission schedule, vacant seat matrix and other updates on the official FYJC admission portal and complete all formalities within the stipulated deadlines.
