New Delhi: Over 1.6 lakh enumeration forms were distributed among voters across Delhi’s 70 assembly constituencies on the first day of the month-long special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, with around 13,000 booth-level officers (BLOs) launching the door-to-door exercise Tuesday.Chief minister Rekha Gupta, who filled and submitted the enumeration forms for herself and her family, urged all eligible voters to participate in the drive to “strengthen democracy”. She later posted on X, “Be sure to fill out your enumeration form on time and submit it to your BLO. An accurate and up-to-date voter list is the foundation of a strong democracy.”As of 6pm, 1,68,291 forms were distributed, and 7,605 were filled up and returned to the BLOs. The exercise will continue till July 29. Each BLO has been assigned around 1,000 to 1,200 voters, and they will upload the collected data through Election Commission of India’s mobile application. The enumeration form is a pre-printed key document with some basic details of the voters. Every registered voter is required to fill the form to facilitate verification and updation of the electoral roll. The exercise aims to identify genuine electors, correct errors and remove ineligible entries. No supporting documents are required to be submitted with the form, and voters can either hand it over to the BLO during the door-to-door visit or submit the details online.Officials said BLOs had been advised to visit households at timings convenient for residents, including mornings, evenings and weekends, and there were no fixed working hours for the exercise. “In the first 10 days, we plan to distribute enumeration forms to nearly 1.5 crore voters. The next 10 days, after July 10, will primarily be used for collecting the completed forms,” an official said.Recognised political parties are also participating in the exercise through their booth-level agents, who are assisting voters in filling and submitting the forms. The BLOs have been instructed to make at least three visits to households found locked before marking an elector unavailable.Delhi has close to 1.5 crore registered voters, including around 77 lakh men and 68 lakh women, according to the electoral roll frozen on June 16. The new draft electoral roll will be published on Aug 5, while the final roll after SIR is scheduled to be released on Oct 7.
