Gandhinagar: The state govt said on Tuesday that during a month-long special drive against loan sharks, as many as 136 persons were arrested in cases registered across the state.An official statement said the intensive campaign was conducted from March 15 to April 14 under the direction of DGP K L N Rao. During the drive, a total of 110 cases were registered against loan sharks across the state, and 136 individuals were arrested.Citing an instance, the govt release stated that Ayush, a youth from Surat who was in financial distress, borrowed Rs 20,000 from one Preet, also known as Bheem Sosa. When Ayush asked for more time to repay the loan, the accused, Preet and Ankit Thakor, allegedly stopped him on the road, abused him, and threatened to kill him with a knife if he did not pay. The Surat police arrested both the accused, and action was taken against them under PASA.
