Varanasi: A total of 134 Agniveers took the oath to serve the nation during a ceremonial Passing Out Parade held at 39 Gorkha Training Centre on Saturday. The parade was reviewed by Zubin A Minwalla, DCIDS (Operations), Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and Colonel of the 9 Gorkha Rifles. The ceremony marked the successful completion of 24 weeks of rigorous basic and advanced combat training designed to prepare the recruits for service in operational units. Reflecting the evolving nature of modern warfare, the training programme placed significant emphasis on the use of emerging technologies.A key feature of the course was comprehensive drone training provided to all Agniveers. The recruits were trained in the operation and application of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), including their use for reconnaissance, surveillance and stand-off attacks, as well as techniques to counter hostile drones. Drone-related concepts were integrated into lectures, demonstrations and field exercises throughout the training period.Army officials said the programme transformed the young recruits into disciplined and mentally agile soldiers ready to join operational units deployed in active field areas for the defence of the nation and its borders. The parade was attended by a large gathering of parents, family members, military veterans and prominent citizens from Varanasi. As the Agniveers marched past the saluting dais and presented arms, the occasion evoked a sense of pride and emotion among their families.Several recruits were honoured for outstanding performance during training.
