Varanasi: A 12-year-old girl was raped and murdered allegedly by her maternal uncle in the Myorpur police station area of Sonbhadra district.In a swift action, the police arrested the accused in a late-night encounter on Monday. He was shot in the leg during retaliatory firing by police.Pipri CO Harsh Pandey said the accused confessed to sexually assaulting the girl and killing her.Pandey said the girl was living at her maternal home and had been missing since Sunday evening. Her body was found 100 metres from her house in Myorpur under suspicious circumstances on Morning morning. Her clothes were dishevelled and injury marks were also found on her neck and some parts of her body. Police sent the body for a post-mortem and filed an FIR under Section 103(1) of BNS for murder.SP Abhishek Verma formed a joint team of SOG, surveillance and local police, given the sensitivity of the case. The team identified the accused within two hours using technical and manual evidence.
