Guwahati: Forest officials arrested a man in Biswanath on Tuesday for possessing a wild pig tooth. The accused, Gopal Sundari of Bihpukhuri in Lahirijan, was arrested by the Crime Investigation Range (CIR) of Biswanath Wildlife Division following inputs about the alleged sale of the animal part as a wildlife trophy.“We intercepted the accused while he was allegedly trying to sell it to a third party. We have arrested him, and a case has been registered,” CIR range officer Mridul Gogoi said.Gogoi said investigators were trying to ascertain whether Sundari acted alone or was part of a wildlife trafficking network. “We suspect that he may be part of a gang. However, the investigation is ongoing, and it is too early to confirm his involvement with any organised network. He will be produced before the local court on Wednesday,” Gogoi added.
