₹191cr med aid doled out under CM’s discretionary fund

Varanasi: Financial assistance worth over ₹1.91 crore was approved for 11,219 beneficiaries in Varanasi from May 2017 to Sept 8, 2026, under Chief Minister’s Discretionary Fund.The support helped financially weaker families meet expenses related to serious illnesses, accidental injuries, hospitalisation, surgeries, medicines, diagnostic tests and follow-up care. For many families, such medical emergencies often lead to heavy financial pressure, forcing them to take loans or sell assets.UP govt is providing assistance to eligible beneficiaries to ensure that lack of money does not become a barrier to medical treatment. The initiative is also part of efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare support system for vulnerable families.Additional district magistrate (protocol) Vinay Kumar Singh said the assistance reflects govt’s sensitivity towards financially weaker families dealing with serious diseases and unforeseen crises.Chief Minister’s Discretionary Fund provides immediate financial relief for the treatment of critical illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, kidney disease and brain tumours. Assistance is also extended in cases of accidental injuries, death of an earning member of a family and other serious circumstances. The support is especially significant for families dependent on a sole breadwinner in the family.The district administration is working to ensure that financial assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries on time. Efforts are being made to keep the application, verification, recommendation and approval process simple, transparent and time-bound.District magistrate Satyendra Kumar said the administration is committed to ensuring that eligible people receive the benefits of the scheme promptly and transparently, enabling families in crisis to get timely relief.
