Hyderabad: The Telangana State Contributory Pension Scheme Employees Union (TSCPSEU) urged chief secretary Sanjay Jaju to release all the Dearness Allownaces to the employees pending since 2023 in one instalment. The association also urged the CS to scrap the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and implement old pension scheme.TSCPSEU state president Sthithapragna and general secretary Kalval Srikanth met the chief secretary on Monday and submitted a representation. Speaking after that Sthithapragna said that the CPS system, implemented since September 1, 2004, has severely undermined employees’ post-retirement social security. He said that around 2,000 retired CPS employees are already facing serious financial hardship due to low pensions. He urged the state govt to scrap CPS and immediately reinstate the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).The president also appealed to the govt to clear the DA arrears pending since 2023 for all CPS employees in a single payment. Sthithapragna said these dues are especially important for employees in view of rising inflation. Referring to the recently issued Employee Health Scheme (EHS), he said the provision requiring retired CPS employees to pay a 1.5% contribution based on their last basic pay is highly unfair. He explained that, compared to the megre pensions they currently receive, this contribution is unaffordable, and in some cases, the amount exceeds their monthly pension. He requested the govt to immediately amend the earlire GOs so that the EHS contribution for retired CPS employees is not calculated on the basis of last basic pay, and instead ensures free medical care. TSCPSEU leaders hoped that the govt would take a favourable decision on these three major demands,in view of the social, financial, and health security of 2.6 lakh CPS employees and teachers in the state.ends/
