Rajkot: Nearly three weeks after a 38-year-old woman succumbed to injuries sustained in a stabbing attack in Rajkot district, the police arrested her alleged former lover and his minor son from Haridwar, where they were allegedly living under false identities after fleeing Gujarat.The victim, identified as Jubeda Guddi, was stabbed multiple times near the Shitala Mata temple in Pardi village of Lodika taluka on the night of June 11. She was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Rajkot but died during treatment on June 15.According to the preliminary investigation, Jubeda married Ayub about seven years ago after the death of her first husband. Police said she later entered into a relationship with her neighbour, the arrested accused, and the two reportedly lived together for around 10 months. However, after disputes arose, she returned to live with her husband and family.Investigators believe the accused was enraged by her decision to leave him and allegedly conspired with his minor son to attack her with the intention of killing her. Police said the accused worked as a rickshaw driver.Following the attack, the victim’s 19-year-old daughter, Khushi Tiwari, lodged an FIR at the Shapar-Veraval police station against the 44-year-old man, who was allegedly her mother’s former lover, and his minor son for attempt to murder and assault using sharp weapon under BNS. After Jubeda’s death, investigators added charge of murder against the accused duo.Investigating officer R B Rana told TOI that the accused father and son went into hiding immediately after the attack. Multiple teams of the Shapar-Veraval police surveillance squad launched a manhunt using technical surveillance and human intelligence to trace them.During the investigation, police received inputs that the duo was staying in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, under assumed identities. A police team travelled to Haridwar, disguised themselves, maintained surveillance at the Haridwar railway station, and apprehended both suspects before initiating legal formalities to bring them back to Gujarat.
