Hisar: A tragic incident unfolded in Fatehabad district on Saturday after a father jumped into a canal to save his teenage son, only for both to be swept away by the strong current. Despite an ongoing rescue operation involving local divers and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), no trace of the two was found till late evening.According to officials, the incident took place near Bighar village, where Vishnu, a Nepalese-origin worker employed at a poultry farm, went to the canal along with his 17-year-old son Subhash and another companion, Biru, for a bath.Police said Subhash reportedly drifted into deeper waters and began drowning. Seeing his son struggle, Vishnu immediately jumped into the canal in an attempt to rescue him. Their companion Biru also entered the water initially but managed to return to safety after finding himself unable to withstand the powerful current.Eyewitnesses said Vishnu continued battling the fast-flowing water in a desperate effort to save his son, but both were eventually swept away.Sonu, son of a former village sarpanch and owner of the poultry farm where Vishnu worked, said the family recently reunited after Vishnu’s wife returned from Nepal around 10 days ago along with their younger son Subhash.“Another son of the family is still in Nepal. The family had barely begun spending time together when this tragedy struck,” he said. Police and local divers launched a search operation soon after the incident. However, due to the strong water flow, rescue efforts faced difficulties, prompting authorities to call an SDRF team from Hisar. Officials said the search operation was continuing and no breakthrough was made till the filing of this report. MSID: 132196761 413 |
