Hyderabad: Rains continued to lash Telangana on Saturday, with several parts of the state experiencing a persistent drizzle and moderate rainfall throughout the day. The widespread showers added to the ongoing wet spell over the past few days, further strengthening monsoon activity across the state. Weather officials have forecast more rain in the coming days.According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS), only seven districts are currently in the deficient category, and the ongoing spell is likely to further reduce the rainfall deficit if it continues through the weekend and into next week. Rangareddy has recorded the highest rainfall in the state so far this monsoon, followed by Nalgonda, Suryapet and Mulugu.Hyderabad, meanwhile, has logged eight heavy rain days and remains in the normal category with a rainfall variation of minus 13%. Medchal-Malkajgiri, however, continues in the deficient category, with a rainfall deficit of 41%, said YV Rama Rao from TDPS.On Saturday, the highest rainfall in the state was recorded at Yelkapalle in Penchikalpet mandal of Kumuram Bheem district, which received 41.5 mm between 8.30 am and 8 pm. This was followed by Sirpur (T) tehsil office in the same district with 38.8 mm and Wankidi with 38 mm.In Adilabad district, Chaprala in Bela mandal recorded 35.8 mm, while the IDOC in Kamareddy received 34.3 mm. Other places that recorded notable rainfall included Gandhari in Kamareddy district (33.5 mm), Bela in Adilabad (31.3 mm), Koukuntla in Mahabubnagar (29.8 mm) and Dahegaon in Kumuram Bheem district (28.8 mm). Moderate rain was also reported from Elupugonda in Kamareddy (26.8 mm), Chegunta in Medak (26.3 mm), Jainad in Adilabad (24.8 mm) and Cheekode in Siddipet (24.5 mm).The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Sangareddy, Medak and Kamareddy districts.“Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong surface winds of 40–50 kmph are also likely at isolated places in Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts,” said an official from IMD.
