Drunk school teacher in Modasa slumps in classroom

Palanpur: A disturbing incident unfolded at a school when a 44-year-old teacher allegedly arrived in an intoxicated condition during class and fell asleep in front of his students.According to eyewitnesses, around a dozen students — most of them very young — were present in the classroom when the teacher, Yashwant Kadia, visibly drunk, slumped into a chair and lay spread-eagled, unable to maintain his composure. The children watched the scene quietly, unsure of what was happening or why their teacher was behaving in such a manner.“He could barely keep his eyes open and soon drifted off while sitting on the chair,” said sources in Modasa Rural police station. The students, reportedly around 12 in number, continued to sit in the classroom, observing the unusual spectacle with innocent curiosity.Police said the school principal called the 112 helpline and informed authorities about the teacher being drunk. When the cops arrived, he was still heavily intoxicated and unable to stand properly. “He was even reeking of alcohol,” said an official.Witnesses said the police had to physically assist him out of the classroom. So drunk was the teacher that he struggled to walk and had to be pushed into the police jeep before being taken away.Upon questioning, he struggled to explain his condition. He was taken to the Modasa Government Hospital for medical examination, and his blood test later confirmed the presence of alcohol beyond permissible limits.Based on the report, the teacher was booked for consuming liquor under the relevant sections of the Gujarat Prohibition Act.
