Tarn Taran: A domestic dispute in Tarn Taran’s Sangha village ended in two deaths after a man allegedly doused his brother-in-law with petrol and set him ablaze. The accused’s wife was fatally burnt while trying to save the victim, police said.Police have registered a murder case and arrested the accused, Sajan Singh, along with his sister, Sandeep Kaur, in connection with the June 13 incident. CCTV footage of the attack surfaced on Saturday.According to police, Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Lopoke village in Amritsar, had gone to his wife’s parental home in Sangha village to persuade her to return after the couple, married for nine months, began living separately following a matrimonial dispute.Police said an argument between Lovepreet and his brother-in-law, Sajan Singh, escalated into a scuffle. CCTV footage purportedly shows a man pouring a liquid, believed to be petrol, over Lovepreet before allegedly setting him on fire with a lighter.Seeing Lovepreet engulfed in flames, Gurjit Kaur, Sajan Singh’s wife, rushed to rescue her brother-in-law but was also caught in the blaze. Sajan Singh too suffered severe burn injuries while attempting to save her and was rescued by bystanders.Senior superintendent of police Surendra Lamba said Lovepreet died soon after the attack, while Gurjit Kaur succumbed to her burn injuries a few days later.The SSP said the accused had been arrested and a murder case registered. Police also arrested Sandeep Kaur, who is alleged to have been involved in the incident.
