VARANASI: Panic prevailed following an accidental firing from a Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) carbine at Nanu Feria Gate checkpoint Kashi Vishwanath Dham on Saturday morning.Three including Nikky Gupta, Ram Babu and Vikas Yadav, are between 30 and 40 years in age and works as florists, suffered injuries from splinters broke and flew in air after two bullets hit the road, said ACP (Dashashwamedh) Atul Anjan Tripathi mentioning all injured persons were given first aid at SSPG divisional hospital and discharged. Matter was being probed. Pilgrims were entering the shrine area normally, he added.The PAC cop was stationed at the high-security Gate 4B , known as Nandu Feria Gate adjacent to Gate-4 through which VIPs enter Kashi Vishwanath Dham. His carbine fell on road leading an accidental discharge, damaging road and the concrete shrapnels.The incident led to chaos as the area was crowded with pilgrims standing in queues and moving on road. But, policemen normalised the situation immediately and rushed injured trio to hospital.Initially it was suspected that they suffered bullet injuries. But, the doctors treated them at hospital cleared that the injuries were caused by concrete shrapnels, said Tripathi.Before this follows a highly incident a similar case of accidental firing was witnessed in Bansphatak area located between Godowlia and Gate-4 of Kashi Vishwanath Dham, in March 2025, when an on-duty PAC cops’s carbine fell from his shoulder. The accidental discharge injured the cops’s eye and a local pan shopkeeper in the thigh.
