New Delhi: Sharjeel Imam, an accused in the 2020 Delhi riots larger conspiracy case, has moved a fresh application seeking access to his research material to complete his PhD thesis.The plea, filed before additional sessions judge Sameer Bajpai, seeks access to a pen drive containing Imam’s research material and a computer to enable him to complete his thesis. Appearing via voice call, counsel Ayesha Zaidi said the request was limited to academic work.Imam, an IIT Bombay graduate, was pursuing PhD in modern history at Jawaharlal Nehru University before his arrest.The court issued notice to the prison superintendent and sought a report by July 18, the next date of hearing.The application comes weeks after Imam filed a fresh bail plea in the 2020 riots conspiracy case, citing nearly six years of incarceration, delay in trial and the fact that charges are yet to be framed.
