Dengue larvae found during Phase-6 inspection

Mohali: Health authorities detected dengue mosquito larvae in coolers and water pots during an inspection conducted in Phase 6 on Friday as part of the “Har Shukarwar, Dengue te Vaar” campaign.Residents where larvae were found were directed to immediately eliminate breeding sources and warned of strict action during future inspections if violations persisted.The inspection was led by civil surgeon Dr Sangeeta Jain along with senior deputy mayor Rajinder Prasad Sharma. The team reviewed the house-to-house anti-dengue drive and inspected locations susceptible to mosquito breeding. Residents were urged to prevent water stagnation in and around their homes and extend full cooperation in dengue prevention efforts.Dr Jain said eliminating stagnant water remains the most effective way to control dengue and advised residents to remain vigilant during the monsoon season. She also educated people about dengue symptoms and preventive measures, adding that free testing and treatment are available at govt health facilities.Rajinder Prasad Sharma lauded the health department’s efforts and advised residents to clean water storage containers every week and replace cooler water daily to curb mosquito breeding.As part of the campaign, health department teams, supported by nursing students, village health sanitation committees and resident welfare associations, conducted container surveys across the district to identify and eliminate potential breeding sites.Officials said the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which spreads dengue, breeds in clean stagnant water and typically bites during the daytime. Residents were advised to seek timely medical attention if symptoms appear and were informed that dengue-related information is available through the 104 helpline.District epidemiologist Dr Anamika Soni and other health department officials were also present during the inspection.
