Jaisalmer: Police in Rajasthan’s Balotra district seized 2.2 kg of MD (mephedrone), valued at around Rs 2.2 crore, and arrested two alleged drug smugglers during an anti-narcotics operation under Operation Vishbhanjan. The raid, carried out jointly by the District Special Team (DST) and Dhorimanna police Friday, involved a 4-km trek on foot through the desert to reach a secluded settlement.The arrested accused were identified as Chenaram and his son Hanumanram, both residents of the raided dhani. Police recovered 2.2 kg of MD and Rs 1.25 lakh in cash, suspected to be proceeds of the narcotics trade. Superintendent of Police Ramesh Kumar said a special team led by Dhorimanna SHO Rawataram Potliya raided a remote dhani that police said the accused had chosen to evade law enforcement.Ramesh Kumar said that after Balotra was carved out as a separate district, police received continuous complaints about drug trafficking in the Dhorimanna area. Acting on these inputs, the DST conducted covert surveillance for nearly a month, monitoring suspicious activities and gathering intelligence.A case has been registered under the NDPS Act. Police are questioning the accused to trace the source of the narcotics, identify the supply network, and examine financial transactions.
