Heavy rain batters Rajasthan, floods low-lying areas; orange alert for 3 districts
Rajasthan experienced widespread monsoon showers, with Sambhar receiving the highest rainfall.

JAIPUR: The southwest monsoon brought widespread rainfall across Rajasthan, with Sambhar in Jaipur recording the highest rainfall of 8 cm during the 24 hours ending Friday morning, the Meteorological Department said.Nimbahera in Chittorgarh district, Kekri in Ajmer, Phagi in Jaipur and Buhana in Jhunjhunu recorded 7 cm of rainfall each, while Kotri in Bhilwara received 6 cm. Several other places recorded rainfall below 6 cm.According to the weather department, several places in eastern Rajasthan witnessed thunderstorms, gusty winds and light to moderate rainfall during the past 24 hours, while isolated places received heavy rain. Parts of western Rajasthan also experienced light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds.Heavy rainfall led to waterlogging in urban areas of Chittorgarh, Bhilwara and Rajsamand districts, while several villages in these districts also witnessed water accumulation.In Jaipur, rainwater entered the trauma centre of the state-run Sawai Man Singh Hospital, inundating the emergency ward, ECG room and X-ray section and causing inconvenience to patients, attendants and hospital staff.In the Chittorgarh district, overnight rainfall in Kapasan and Nimbahera tehsils blocked several roads.The department has issued an orange alert for Kota, Baran and Jhalawar districts on Friday and a yellow alert for the rest of the state, except Jaisalmer and Barmer.The weather department has forecast torrential rain in several districts of eastern and southeastern Rajasthan over the coming days. It has also warned of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places in the Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Bharatpur and Jaipur divisions during the next five to seven days.Extremely heavy rainfall is also likely at isolated places in districts under the Kota division, it said.
