Amid tight security, city logs over 71% attendance in UPTET 2026 day 1
46 exam centres, 96,454 candidates: Lucknow admin steps up vigilance for UPTET 2026

Lucknow: More than 71% attendance was recorded in both shifts on the opening day of the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2026 in Lucknow on Thursday, with the district administration enforcing stringent security and monitoring arrangements. The examination will continue till Saturday.According to official attendance figures, the first shift recorded 14,032 candidates present out of 19,734 registered candidates, with 5,702 absentees, taking the attendance to 71.10%. In the second shift, 14,084 of the 19,734 registered candidates appeared for the examination, while 5,650 remained absent, resulting in an attendance of 71.36%.To review the arrangements, district magistrate Vishakh G and joint police commissioner Babloo Kumar inspected Government Girls’ Inter College (Chhoti Jubilee) on Nabiullah Road and Government Girls’ Inter College on Shahmina Road. They reviewed candidate entry procedures, security arrangements and overall examination management.According to an official statement, the officials inspected biometric verification, identity checks, CCTV surveillance, question paper security and strong room arrangements. Centre administrators were directed to strictly follow guidelines issued by the state govt and examination authorities.The district administration said all 46 examination centres in Lucknow are under CCTV surveillance. Zonal magistrates have been deployed to monitor the examination, while a central control room has been set up to oversee the process.UPTET 2026 is being conducted at 46 examination centres in Lucknow, where a total of 96,454 candidates are expected to appear over the course of the examination. To ensure its smooth and fair conduct, the administration has deployed 46 sector magistrates, 46 static magistrates and adequate police personnel at all centres.
