Varanasi: The Saidpur police in Ghazipur district arrested a wanted criminal, Nagina Banwasi (49), following an encounter on Thursday.The accused, who carried a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, suffered bullet injury in the leg during the encounter and was admitted to hospital for treatment. The police also recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol, two empty cartridges, and a live cartridge from his possession.Banwasi was wanted in several cases, including one registered under section 103(1)/238 of BNS.According to reports, SHO Anil Singh on Wednesday received information about movement of Banwasi, a resident of Birno police station area of Ghzipur district, on Baburhani bridge. Acting on this information, a police team conducted a raid. When the cops asked him to surrender, he turned back and tried to flee, by opening fire at the police team. In the retaliatory firing by police, he was injured and caught. Police said that further legal action is underway.
