Retired cop gets ‘triple-riding’ challan for car

Times News NetworkLudhiana: A retired Punjab Police AIG got an FIR registered after discovering that an unidentified person was allegedly using his car’s registration number on a motorcycle. The matter came to light when Ratan Singh Brar, a resident of Thakur Colony on Pakhowal Road, received a traffic challan for triple riding. Brar, who retired from Punjab Police as AIG, owns a Hyundai Creta bearing registration number PB-10-JB-2887.According to the complaint, Brar was issued a challan of Rs 1,297. On verifying the details, he found that the challan had been issued by ASI Talwinder Singh on Jan 22 for triple riding. He was surprised to learn that the violation had been recorded against a motorcycle allegedly displaying his car’s registration number.Suspecting misuse of his vehicle registration number, Brar approached the city police and filed a complaint on May 12.After conducting an inquiry into the allegations, Sadar police registered an FIR against unidentified accused under relevant sections of BNS.Sub-inspector Tarsem Singh, the investigating officer, said police are trying to identify the motorcycle on which the complainant’s registration number was allegedly being used.Police said efforts are underway to trace the vehicle and ascertain who was responsible for using the duplicate registration number. Further investigation is in progress.
