Varanasi: Police and administration have launched preparations to ensure safe, smooth and uninterrupted journey of lakhs of Kanwar pilgrims and devotees during the upcoming Shrawan month and for effective implementation of the Reducing Traffic Congestion (RTC) Scheme. Police commissioner Mohit Agarwal hit the roads, conducting on-site inspection of major routes and reviewed arrangements on Wednesday. He conducted on-site inspection of major routes to the city and carried out a comprehensive review of traffic, security and public facilities. He inspected routes linked to the city, including Chandpur Chauraha, Bauliya Tiraha, Lahartara, Cantt Station, Chaukaghat and Andhrapul. During the inspection, he gave necessary directions to the departments concerned to expedite work on the under construction service lane from Chandpur to Bauliya Tiraha, so that Kanwar pilgrims and general public do not face any inconvenience in movement. He asked officials to eliminate traffic obstructions arising due to illegal bus stands, unauthorised vehicle parking, road encroachment and handcart-vendors and to ensure effective legal action against offenders. Along with this, he laid emphasis on ensuring a safe, smooth, and obstruction-free traffic system by keeping continuous surveillance on suspicious activities and providing additional police force, barricading, lighting arrangements, signage, and emergency assistance at railway stations, bus stands, and sensitive locations. He laid emphasis on further strengthening the lighting arrangements, signage, barricading, emergency assistance, and rapid police response system on major routes in view of the safety and convenience of Kanwar pilgrims. Police commissioner directed to ensure effective legal action while keeping strict surveillance on persons involved in immoral, suspicious and unlawful activities around major routes, bus stands and railway stations. He was accompanied by DCP Varuna Zone Pramod Kumar, additional DCP Varuna Zone, Lipi Nagayach, additional DCP Traffic Anshuman Mishra, assistant commissioner of police traffic, assistant commissioner of police Rohania and TIs concerned, stations in charge and the police force.
