Climate awareness through puppet shows, Parai, and panel discussions

Chennai: This year’s edition of Climate Action Month (CAM) will focus on short-life electronic accessories and their environmental impact, alongside ocean science, green employment opportunities, solid waste management and climate action.Conducted by Citizen consumer and civic Action Group (CAG), the fifth edition will feature a month-long programme of public events and technical sessions that bring together communities, experts, artists, students, policymakers and practitioners to address some of the most pressing environmental challenges. The public will witness a diverse range of activities, including art performances, interactive workshops, community-led initiatives, guided nature walks, panel discussions and expert talks.All the events will be held in Chennai, and among the programmes for this weekend is a wetland walk at Pallikaranai, says Ramalingam Karunanidhi, researcher, CAG. “Sunday will see a music programme at Pondy Bazaar, with awareness on waste management and climate change integrated into it, held in association with GCC.”The weekend after will have a nature walk in the evening at Adyar eco park, in association with the TN wetlands mission, besides a traditional folk dance ‘parai aattam’ by the students of Loyola college.Sessions on composting will be held in schools, and documentaries screened at book clubs. “We are looking at diverse ways to send across the message, including magic shows, stand-up comedy and puppet shows in parks, MNCs and schools,” says Ramalingam. ‘Kuppai Thiruvizha’, the annual all-day zero waste carnival celebrated by CAG will be held on July 17.
