Varanasi: The police are ramping up efforts to extradite Shubham Jaiswal, the alleged mastermind behind the codeine cough syrup smuggling racket, as investigations gather pace with chargesheets filed, arrests made, and illicit assets seized.Police commissioner Mohit Agrawal on Tuesday said the process of issuing a Red Corner Notice against Shubham, the fugitive kingpin, has been completed. The request has been sent to Interpol through the CBI to locate and provisionally arrest him for extradition.Police initiated this action after it became clear that Shubham left India in Nov 2025 and took shelter in Dubai. After attaching properties of Shubham’s jailed father Bhola Prasad, his other family and gang members, the cops are also gearing up to attach the properties and freeze bank accounts in his name.ACP, Kotwali, Vijay Pratap Singh said they have uploaded a 60-page chargesheet against Shaili Traders proprietor Bhola and his son Shubham, and the hard copy will be filed before the court concerned soon. The chargesheet against the duo includes solid evidence, witness statements and important documents related to financial transactions. A detailed chargesheet against 18 other accused had already been submitted before the court in March.Since the lodging of an FIR with Kotwali police in Nov 2025, 30 accused have been arrested and property worth Rs 45 crore has been seized, said the ACP.Shubham and his accomplices, including Bhola, have FIRs lodged against them at Rohaniya and Sarnath police stations. He has already been declared a fugitive in these cases.
