3 dead after truck overturns on UP's Gonda-Belsar road

LUCKNOW: At least three people were killed after a truck carrying iron reinforcement bars (rebar) overturned on the Gonda-Belsar road in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district on Thursday morning. Four other labourers travelling in the vehicle escaped by jumping off moments before it overturned. The accident took place at around 9.30 am near Madhavpur village under the Dehat Kotwali police station limits. According to police, the truck was transporting iron rods for the construction of a bridge over the Tedhi River at Veer Singh Pur when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.Preliminary reports suggest the truck veered onto the roadside on the rain-soaked stretch, causing the heavily loaded vehicle to lose balance and overturn into a roadside field. While four labourers managed to jump to safety, three others were trapped beneath the truck.Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted the police. Personnel from Dehat Kotwali police station and ambulance teams rescued the victims and took them to Gonda Medical College, where doctors declared three labourers dead. The deceased were identified as Ravindra Paswan (31), Rajendra Paswan (42), and Ram Gulam Paswan (30), all residents of Chandpur village under Tarabganj police station limits. Ravindra and Rajendra were brothers. The injured labourers were admitted to hospital and are undergoing treatment.Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, although preliminary findings indicate that slippery road conditions caused by rain may have contributed to the driver losing control of the truck.Taking cognisance of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and directed officials to ensure the injured receive the best possible treatment. He also instructed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
