New Delhi: Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has arrested two men, including an alleged member of Tillu Tajpuria gang, in connection with an attempt-to-murder case linked to a bid to seize a disputed property in Alipur, during which around 12 rounds were allegedly fired.The accused, identified as Sandeep alias Daagu Maharaj (40) and his cousin Deepak (32), both residents of Haryana’s Sonipat, were arrested near Narela.Special commissioner of police (crime) HGS Dhaliwal said the incident took place October 30, when 30-45 armed men allegedly gathered at a disputed plot in Ramjanpur village to illegally take possession of the property.“During the incident, the assailants allegedly opened indiscriminate fire, discharging around 12 rounds, attempted to break open the lock of the plot, and assaulted several persons with sticks, creating panic and terror in the locality,” Dhaliwal said.Police later received intelligence that Sandeep would arrive in Narela in a black SUV along with an associate. Acting on the input, a team laid a trap.“When the vehicle was intercepted, the accused attempted to flee but were apprehended after a brief chase near the road connecting Narela UER-II Road and Alipur-Narela Road,” police said.A semi-automatic pistol loaded with eight live cartridges and the SUV used by the accused were seized.According to police, Sandeep allegedly turned to crime in 2011 after being arrested in a mobile phone snatching case and was later jailed from 2016 to Nov 2022 in multiple cases, including murder and attempt to murder.Police said he came in contact with gangster Tillu Tajpuria while lodged in Sonipat Jail and joined the gang after his release in Nov 2022. In Feb 2023, one of Tillu’s associates allegedly handed him a semi-automatic pistol and 10 live cartridges near the Singhu border. He also remained in touch with alleged gang associates Deepak Balyan and another member, Sandeep, both residents of Tajpur.During interrogation, Sandeep allegedly disclosed that in Oct last year, he with his brother Shantanu and other gang members were called to Bakhtawarpur with firearms before heading to Ramjanpur village, where they allegedly fired around 12 rounds, assaulted several people and attempted to seize the disputed property.Police said Sandeep is an active member of Tillu Tajpuria gang.
